[ms_accordion style=”boxed” type=”1″ class=”” id=””][ms_accordion_item title=”Goldwater Service” icon=”fa-film” status=”close”][ms_row][ms_column style=”1/2″][/ms_column][ms_column style=”1/2″][/ms_column][/ms_row]At the Goldwater Hospital, Sai devotees visit and interact with the residents once every month, give them gifts and sing to those whose birthdays fall in that month. On special days like Valentine’s day, Father’s day, Mothers’s Day etc. every resident is given a gift, which brings a smile to their faces. For the Christmas Holiday season, devotees sing Christmas Carols and distribute gifts. This service is done by all the NYC Sai centers and the calendar for 2012 is available here.

Roosevelt Island, NY 10044 [/ms_accordion_item][ms_accordion_item title=”Soup Kitchen/ Macedonia AME Church” icon=”fa-film” status=”close”][ms_row][ms_column style=”1/3″][/ms_column][ms_column style=”1/3″][/ms_column][ms_column style=”1/3″][/ms_column][/ms_row]Gently used clothes, Non Perishable food items (like Pasta, Rice, canned food), educational and household items, toys, etc. are collected at the Flushing Sai Center every Sunday. Once in a month the items are sorted after Bhajans and then transported to the Church. On Wednesdays the church members distribute them to the needy. This is very unique service where all the members of the center have an opportunity to participate either by providing supplies or sorting and transporting the things to the Church. More than 350 people visit the church’s food pantry every Wednesday.

This is a farming project located in Huntington, Long Island, NY. The farm is run as a non-profit organization by two Sai devotees and the vegetable produce from the farm is donated free of cost to the homeless, the needy and charitable organizations that are doing similar work.

This is a different type of project where we are able to help at the beginning of the food chain by helping the farm grow organic vegetables. We can help them with cultivating the land, watering the plants, weed-removing, nurturing & protecting the plants, harvesting, bagging and delivering the vegetables to the needy. While we derive pleasure from the fact that we are able to help the needy, our children benefit from having another way of performing service by working with nature, learning farming and getting educated along the way. They enjoy the team-oriented, picnic style and field-trip style project during the summer. These are generally need-based and a few that have been supported in the past, include, Haiti Earthquake relief, Pakistan Flood Relief, Bhutan Refugees SEVA, Afghan school supplies, Iraq soccer ball project, etc.[/ms_accordion_item][/ms_accordion]
